While I don't like going to them either, I don't think they should be banned either. People enjoy them, so let people have fun with them if they want to.
I do think what the OP was kinda getting out is that theirs a lot of societal pressure to go drink and clubbing/bar hopping if you want to have a good time and meet people. In someways this is true, there is a lot of pressure to do so, but doesn't mean you have to do so. You can meet people outside bars/clubs just fine and you can find interesting things to do that don't involve drinking too.
Exactly. People are too stupid to see that it's the pop culture media that influences these actions. Pop culture media should be outlawed also.
ha. lol.. It's people who go to bars who believe they're the cream since they're executing a "cool" activity. they also fail to realise that it's merely a concept invented by pop culture and the media, not some ancient or supreme insight or wisdom.
I have never met anyone who thought going to bars/clubs made them better or cooler than anyone else... that's a very odd thing to think.
Plus, bars and 'clubs' have been around basically since the beginning of humanity. Even the ancient civilizations had social clubs where things were debated and alcohol was imbibed. People haven't changed all that much so you can't really blame it on pop culture and media.

Lots of places exist in which you can hang out with friends. And?
Of course, and bars/clubs are one of those places.

Either that's a lie or you're deluded.

this may be true, but attitudes to bars/taverns in antiquity were different to today. There was no pop culture in 100AD telling everybody the "intrinsic" virtue of going to such places. This is the major reason why persons today go.

So then why did people go to taverns and bars 200 years ago when there was no mass media? And what pop culture is telling people to go to bars? If bars aren't your thing, then don't go to them.
Did you get kicked out of a bar, or are you under 21?
I look down on people who look down on people who go to bars. They somehow think they are "better" than people who go to bars. And I don't even go to bars anymore. But I still look down on those who look down on those who do.

People went for fun, to relax, and to socialise. There was no social/pop-culture induced pressure to go to them. If anything, many may not have, due to 1813 being more conservative and religious than today.
You tell me where the attitude that it's "inherently" virtuous to go to bars comes from?

Haha. This is true. Snobby nerds.
