Do you honestly really want to eat the same cereal everyday for the next 50-60 years?
Another fundamental misunderstanding of life expectancy stats. People have been living into their 80's, 90's, and even 100's for at least as long as history has been recorded. While we do have a longer life expectancy today, most historical life expectancies include the higher rates of infant and child deaths in the past, which drastically drag the average down.

Even in medieval times, if one survived childhood, the average life expectancy was in the 60's. But this does not mean no one ever lived to be 80+, or even that it was very rare. It was less common but NOT unheard of.

Also men back in the day(biblical times) men were able to marry multiply wifes.
But women were stoned for having affairs. Because women had virtually no rights. Does that really sound like the type of society we should return to? You're not making a very good case for it, lol.

Now western society forces monogamy on people. Do people seem any happier now with the one partner for life set up?
I KNOW I am happier with my husband for the rest of my life than I would be if I were forced into sharing him with other wives and then stoned to death if I attempted to slept with anyone else.

Some of the comments here never ceases to amaze me sometimes

Monogamy is a waste of time and it can't work. Someone will always end up getting hurt.

People should be spreading their love, not keeping it limited for one person. Monogamy is unnatural and can cause some individuals to develop mental problems later in life.

Monogamy was developed by our ancestors long ago, and has proved to be part of the reason why the human species has thus far been so successful. So it is not "unnatural."

In comparison most primate species like chimpanzees and gorillas have a "harem" system, where one male has a group of women and disallows other males from mating with them. Humans used to go by the system but steadily over time we moved to a system of egalitarian monogamy whereby one man provides for a woman and her offspring, and it has allowed society to be much more flexible and productive, since more men have reason to be productive instead of being shut out of reproduction, and the women and children receive better protection (and less danger from jealous, violent alpha males. Gorilla silverbacks commonly kill offspring of their harems that come from other males in the group).
