In my mind, it means she too is gay. Maybe I am old, but if I was a young guy in his 20's I wouldn't want to hang around people who didn't share my interests.

I finally got to the bottom of why she would refuse a lesbian friend and she was concerned other people would think SHE was gay too . I would not want people thinking I was a lesbian either, because I'm not & it's incorrect information. But when people have this issue it seems to be about the social STIGMA of someone thinking they're a lesbian.
I do not beleive your niece has solely lesbian friends, especially if she has a group of friends. There's probably ones you just don't know of that are straight.

Who cares what you think it best. She's an adult and can do whatever she likes. You can either be a nice, supportive uncle or a critical, judgmental one.

Does it matter? She is either gay or she isn't. Nothing you do, say, or think will change that fact. As other posters have already stated, just accept her as she is.

I don't understand the the concern? I have friends that are lesbians. But I hang with both sexes.
