Most of the guys who have contacted me never read my profile. My profile clearly stated I do not date dads and that I am very involved in church yet the majority seemed to be divorced dads who were atheist or even worse never married dads with several baby mamas. I'm convinced most men on dating sites are illiterate, at least the ones who contacted me.
When I did use online dating, I would read the whole profile so I would see if I had a reason to message the person or not. Just going by pictures didn't make sense to me. Writing the message "nice jugs" just doesn't have the same appeal as "hey, I noticed you enjoy watching doctor who and going to comic conventions. What's the most fun you've had while attending them?"

I agree with this. I don't think they read at all.
I don't read either. I sent out two messages in three month. Both guys posted shirtless photos, and those are the only two guys I found to be physically attractive. I went out with one of them and we had a great time. But then again, I was not a serious dater. I just wanted to have some fun, no more, no less.
When I was on POF I got messages from 'thug' looking dudes a lot, so at the end of my profile I said 'If you read this, please put the word pineapple somewhere in your message '

I'm asking because I'm debating whether to take the time to put more recent photos up in my profile. The ones I have now are a year - 3 years old. I haven't aged significantly, but I was wondering if I would get more attention with newer photos.
