OP, yes, smoking is a dealbreaker for many people. I would never ever date a man that smoked. I cannot stand the smell. Also, smokers are not health/fitness conscious, and I am, so it's a clear conflict with my lifestyle. Someone that states that they just "smoke occasionally" is simply hoping that that is less objectionable for people. It doesn't matter to me how much you smoke. You either do, or you don't.

Enjoy the 20%, and your smoke.
This. And I say this as someone who is dating an occasional smoker. I can't stand it and he knows it. My mother has smoked for years and has been in the hospital with fluid in her lungs thanks to it. It was a dealbreaker for me, however it's one of those things I try to look past if everything else about the person is amazing.

What annoyed me about Eharmony in particular, is that if there is certain criteria that prevents you from posting on the site, they should put that upfront, instead of making you fill out the 2 hour long questionnaire before declining you. Like smoking, for instance, or waiting for your divorce to be finalized (which happened to me).

My niece was declined, too, but I'm not sure why. She's never been married, doesn't smoke, and she's normal height.

I'll have to ask her.

I remember dating a girl back then who was horrified that I wanted to sit in the nonsmoking section as we were both nonsmokers. She thought it was too square. Found her later on an online dating site and it clearly states that she thinks smokers are losers. We are a society of hypocrites who preach from a tower of privilege.
Yep... I remember those days... when their nasty, unhealthy smoke would waft over and bother my eyes and my breathing...

I was SO GLAD when people POISONING ME was banned.....

You want to smoke... knock yourself out. But YOUR RIGHT to poison yourself DOES NOT supersed MY RIGHT to BREATH CLEAN AIR!!!!

Smokers are some of the most inconsiderate A Holes Ever, and they act all offended if you want to BREATH!

I know smoking is terrible for health. I learned that when I was a child and got the class in
school. I came home and tore up my parents' cigarettes over it.

But I have news for you. We are all going to "assume room temperature."
What I am about to say has no bearing on my current decision not to quit,
but to only taper down. Nobody in my family on any side died of lung cancer
or smoking-related cancer, and they virtually all smoked and lived into 80s
and 90s.

No need to quit smoking for a woman. Just date a woman who smokes.

A number of years ago, I took the eHarmony test and was rejected then also, but I do not
recall if I said I was a smoker. Tell ya what, I'll take the test again and say I don't smoke
this time, will post results. I am not serious about using the site, just playing a game, really.

ok, results are in. I answered the questions THE SAME WAY
and said I do NOT smoke. My desired age range was a 10 year
spread and my desired location was anywhere. My desired
religion was Christian, and my desired race was "no preference".
Guess what.

We're sorry —
we are unable to find the
right type of people for you
This does not reflect on you personally or your chances of
finding a happy relationship. Thank you for trying eHarmony;
we wish you the best in finding a great relationship.

Therefore, eHarmony is rejecting me for who I am, not for smoking.

You should never change yourself for another person, only change yourself for YOU.

Wow. There must just be something about you that they don't like.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
