I have never been motivated to approach women out of the blue. I have been introduced to women and been in group situations where our interests have meshed. I know myself well enough to know approaching women out of the blue would never go well for me nor would it be well received by the women in question.
I will approach any girl I find attractive if I see a reason to talk. For example, in the supermarket I saw a girl with eggplant and I asked about cooking that. Another girl I heard her speaking Cantonese and asked if she was from Hong Kong. Things like that.
What deters me? Usually the only thing that deters me is if they're with friends. I know many people would say they like that but not my style.
Women in clubs always seem to be with a group of friends, the herd. It just makes it so frustrating. Especially since those rare times she's alone she's on her phone and you feel rude for interrupting. What happened to the days when women actually went to places to meet men? To just meet, not to have a 'hook up' with.

Go to a newsstand and buy the woman's magazine that has a blurb on the cover that says something about "places to meet men". Buy the magazine, read the article, and go to those places.
Surprise, it will not list meat markets as the place to go to meet men.
Either by being emotionally "available" or by being sexually available.
Guys can tell if we stand a chance or not.
Just being the one woman of the day who looks at us while she plays with her hair and bites her lip can set it off.
