Do women there do the same thing?

I ought to haul my arse to the Pacific Northwest.
Well, one of the beekeepers in question was a woman .

I would be weirded out by receiving a 'first date gift', to be honest.

I'm not really into receiving flowers. I particularly hate red roses -- sure, they're pretty, but they're such an obvious, uninspired choice. I've also often joked "Nothing says 'I'm sorry I slept with my secretary' like a dozen roses!". And I can't really have fresh flowers at home, my cat drives herself crazy trying to get at them so she can eat them. Only thing I can do is bring them in to the office, and I prefer to not deal with my coworkers and direct reports and my boss making comments about whatever types of flowers I have at any given moment. (My personal opinion is that it's okay if I have flowers on my desk at my birthday or even Valentines day, but it's just not professional otherwise. Bolded for emphasis. I'm not making value judgments on anyone else's job and their choose of office decor.)

Plus, unless my date is picking me up at my house (which is not something I typically do. More on that in a bit.), I'm stuck carrying flowers or a rose or some other random gift, like a Bible (!!!) or jar of honey for the rest of the evening.

Why I'm not a fan of my date picking me up: Because the inverse is that my date then has to take me home, unless I get a taxi or something. And I'm not comfortable with the dynamic that can create. I like knowing I have the ability to leave, on my own will and when I want, at any time. This isn't just a safety issue, however -- I'm on call for work emergencies 24/7 and I do get calls outside of business hours. Occasionally, if something really goes bad, I need to either leave where I am and head back home ASAP to hop online, or even go into the office until the crisis passes. Lastly, this pretty much effectively removes the question of sex on the first date.

I believe in going cheap unless it is a serious relationship. I have had guys try to get me to pay for them and that was rude.

After a couple months of chating with one woman I set up the date with her. I didn't think anything when I had bought a small statue of the kitten, I just wanted to make her smile. Fortunately, she liked this gift.

On several occasions I have received a bouquet of flowers on a first date. I think it is very sweet, but them again, I am in my 50's.
