I sometimes dabble around in the POC forum. Yeah, I have a slight masochistic streak in me. One of the things that I've always sort of struggled with is when people who really really identify with a political party or a political view.

I always have a hard time "picking a side" politically speaking. I have some views that would make hardcore right wingers cringe and same goes with the hardcore lefties.

I'm sort of all of the map in my views I guess.

I was just in that forum and people really self identify with their political party a little too much to me... too many kool aid drinkers on either side.

I see a lot of intellectual dishonesty going on there as well, all to preserve their party and to save face.

I like to dabble in there too. It's interesting to watch, especially as an "outsider". I mean, Canadians can get pretty wrapped up in politics, but sweet jeezus. lol

One thing I really like, is when people get going on healthcare. Pro single payer people like to use Canada as an example as something that works. The other side screams "WELL WHY DON'T YOU JUST MOVE TO SOCIALIST, COMMIE CANUCKISTAN THEN? HOPE YOU DON'T GET SICK AND WAIT IN LINE FOR 3 YEARS AND EVALUATED BY DEATH PANELS, AND THEY TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS!! CANADIANS AREN'T ALLOWED TO OWN GUNS!!!"

Then I can chime in and say "But, I've never had to wait in line for anything at the hospital. Certainly no more then 3 hours. I guess sometimes a specialist might take a bit. But I sure am glad I won't go bankrupt over a broken leg. And, I own a semi-auto SKS rifle. If I really wanted to blow some money, I could go buy a Barret .50cal sniper rifle. And it would be classified as non-restricted. I could drive around with it in my trunk, all day long, perfectly legal like."

"SHUT UP AND GO BACK TO MAKING MAPLE SYRUP, COMMIE."

Those loonies are so much fun to get riled up.

Chow, it's a problem many have with both parties, it's why many of us don't subscribe to either, though our ideals may still lean more so one way or the other sometimes. I've always been a rather middle ground kind of person and will look at both sides. I know in my family, I have people that work in politics, are on both sides same in my dating life, I've dated people with very strong leanings on both political sides. Some with such strong feelings that at some points, I've had to and tell them not to say another word if they wish to continue the date/relationship and I will afford them the same courtesy.

Same with some gender issues, people will argue one side of the issue just based on which side of the coin they fall, integrity, factuality, reasoning be damned.

Right there with you. I can't go to that forum because reading some POV's, it just makes me smack my head. I've never been a "black or white" person. Depends on the issue, and even then I don't feel as though my opinion should dictate everyone else's choices.

Folks that drive me batty are those that whine and bytch about Obama and pick at every little thing he does to find fault. The bitterness some of these folks show is utterly shocking but I guess it makes them feel better? Websites created, bumper stickers...etc. I just don't have that much time or energy to dedicate to something or someone I don't agree with or don't like. They must have a lot of time on their hands

I basically consider myself to be middle of the road, even though on more than one occasion I've had people on CD call me a conservative.

The only thing I'm "conservative" on is people taking personal responsibility for their actions ,especially in how their actions are gonna affect others.

One of the other things that gets me is when you're talking to someone and you don't know them that well and they don't know you well, obviously, but when they start ranting about Obama or fill in the blank president.

I mean what if I was an Obama Kool-Aid drinker, wouldn't it set themselves up to be in a possible argument with someone...

IDK... I rarely talk politics / religion at work, just because you may never know who you're gonna offend or possibly offend.

People around my town haven't any qualms about spouting off at the mouth on either side, I just stare at them as I do when most people talk nonsense, whether I agree or not. I do the blank stare. When they ask if I think they are talking too much nonsense, I just say to them it doesn't matter, I'm not paying you any attention one way or another. Same thing I do when someone is gossiping. They get annoyed sometimes, but hey, it's much more rude to assume everyone around you wants to listen or engage in such talk.

And people don't wonder why I'm so not popular.

IRL I'm a pretty agreeable person. I don't talk all that much.

I don't know if it's a curse or a gift, but I see the irony and the contradictions in everything around me.... I think it's part of where I get considered "funny" by people.

Sometimes my observations offend people and I know I have offended some people here, people that I feel are good decent people.

Sometimes the disconnect between my brain and my typing fingers widens......more of an ebb and flow...I suppose.
