I've read several threads over the yrs here where a woman was questioning whether a guy likes her or not because he's not being aggressive or trying to "get laid" fast enough.
I personally have done that in my life, try and go slow and take things slow and the woman gets bored and moves on.

If hand holding seems like it might scare him, go for touching his arm while talking. I've NEVER met a man who didn't seem to like that. It helps melt that invisible barrier and gives you an idea how receptive he is to hand holding.
