I'm looking down more and more at the ring finger status as I get older, that at least tells me right off the bat if I need to abandon ship before it even sets sail because someone else is already keel hauling it.
Do you know many men can't tell? Good for you recognizing one.
Childhood programming- If one or both of your parents was emotionally unavailable, you'd more likely be attracted to EU people because they trigger in you the love you wanted from a parent. It is also familiar.
Low self esteem-Feeling you don't deserve better
Scarcity thinking- Thinking that there is no one out there for you, and that this person is your last chance.
You view such people as a challenge and you make it your goal to "get" them
I agree with all of these, having gone through some of these feelings and seeing others go through similar situations
Why do we go after people we know aren't healthy for us or may not even share our same feelings? Is it something ingrained in us from when we were growing up that we couldnt get the love we demanded from our parent(s)?
If I look back at my own personal situations, it's because women who had no interest in me led me on. Probably wanted the attention.
If you have no interest in somebody, just kill it dead, and leave no doubt.

I honestly don't know.
I have it worse in that when I see someone I want but can't have, at some point, I misinterpret something she does or says and then, all reason and sense jumps out of the window.
Often those who go for the emotionally unavailable person are also unavailable. They may discover this when they take a look within deep down or they may just remain in denial and blame it on bad luck.
