Some of the messiest, most complicated predicaments I read about on CD seem to happen to people who talk in a passive voice. For example:

"One thing just led to another, and..."

"By the end of the night, we ended up..."

"One way or another, we found ourselves..."

It like they are skipping over some pretty important details, as well as denying responsibility for the dumb choices they probably made. Does anyone else find this irritating?

Yes! My No. 1 pet peeve here.

It is VERY telling. I make a habit of pointing it out, and the OP's reaction usually indicates how deep in denial they are.

In other words, you didn't do anything to stop that.

Hey, you never know. They may have been wearing those new-fangled Japanese "sentient clothes", that respond to the emotion of their wearer and act by themselves.

Some people lack or are weak in self-awareness (especially the emotional kind), and if they lack self-awareness, then they cannot explain themselves to others either.

That's not passive voice! Passive voice would have been: "One way or another, the situation was found to be..."

Active voice: "We did..."
Passive voice version: "It was done by us..."

In passive voice, the subject and object are exchanged, to emphasize the object in lieu of the subject.

These examples are more of rationalization and inability to take responsibility for ones actions. There is a group of people absolutely notorious for this, saying things like "he swept me off my feet, there was nothing i could do" or "we've had too much to drink, there was nothing I could do". Some people cannot take responsibility for their actions to save their lives. It bugs me too.

That's not correct. There were things you could do. If a man sweeps a woman off her feet without consent, the woman should claim kidnapping, rape, drug contaminantion, etc.

Don't allow men who rape women to get off free.
