I just thought I'd make a light-hearted topic to offset all the negative ones lately. It is potentially interesting as well. I'd like to know what cuisine you prefer when you take someone out for the first dinner date. When I say dinner, I mean a sit-down sort of meal that's planned beforehand as opposed to say, a sandwich after a date in the park or at the ball game.

Personally I like Italian, which is pretty boring I know, but it's usually a safe bet. If it's an authentic place the food will be hearty and it's generally not as pretentious or fancy as a French place while still bringing some Old World class that modern American places lack.

I too like Italian food, but like you said, first date to an Italian restaurant could be pretty boring.

I would prefer a Korean BBQ Place, or somewhere like Benihana Restaurant.

depends on the season. If it's spring/summer there are a few seasonal restaurants that are only open then that serve some pretty amazing seafood and other pretty tasty dishes and you can sit outside and eat on a table with shade. That would be a nice first dinner date.

If it's in the fall or winter, maybe I make dinner at my place and maybe watch a movie together, or I could take her out to a steakhouse or if I want to go a little cheaper, to a cheesecake factory. At least if we went to the cheesecake factory and she's just not interested in me i can load up on cheesecake.

Lemon-pepper Chicken and rice. If I have all the ingredients (and saute correctly) veggies, chicken and rice, it turns to be my go to, easy-bake recipe.

If I have time to make the sauce, then spaghetti is my second. I can make a pretty mean spaghetti sauce.

Oh, a restaurant? I'm partial to chicken strips and fries. If it has to be a date then Italian.

Yep, Tex Mex. it's inexpensive and wonderful. My husband took me out for seafood on our first date. It was sweet, but we had more fun when he'd meet me at the Mexican place after work once were officially dating.

Go for ribs, bone sucking sauce, lots of slurping action, licking, knowing how someone digs into a plate of ribs gives you a lot of insight into their personality, or lack thereof. And if they are vegetarian, can they stand a real rib joint, with the smell of smoked meat? Can they gracefully munch on coleslaw, a baked sweet potato, and dig into a piece of roasted corn, or will they disdain all food, even available, suitable, vegetarian fare?

Or go to a crab house, nothing but crab, melted butter, lemon, and crackers. Have mallet, will crack crabs! Are they digging in? Or are they looking for a knife and fork? Another slurp fest, and nothing like checking out how forcefully they will wield a crab mallet.
