Because I've heard a lot of women say a guy hasn't take them on a "real date" in a long time(or ever), or that guys never ask them out on "real dates". So I want to hear from women what is your defintion of a "real date"?

The basic implication that I get from women is that it's when guys aren't taken them outside or don't want to be seen in public with them.

Taking you outta the house. Usually there is food involved, a movie, or some other recreation.

What if I invite you over my place and cook dinner myself? Does that count as a "real date"?

Because most women I talk to say yes

real dates, whatever the events may be, lead a woman to excitement, and has an intimate nature to it. one where the girl is the center piece. most not all enjoy getting all dolled up for a date.

as a guy i can respect that if thats what she likes, some girls prefer cheaper date nights...like a sports event, a camping trip, a movie, bowling..whatever.

really depends, but its usually something different from the norm.

A date is a specifically planned event where just the two of you can be together and focus on each other and your relationship (which doesn't necessarily have to include sex.) It's not grabbing Chinese on the fly after you've gone to Costco.

Good example. It really is an evening planned for the purpose of spending time with your SO (that doesn't imvolve running errands as an integral part of it).

My husband and I have movie dates at home. We order takeout and watch a movie. Or we cook together.

If the weather is lousy, this is particularly good as dates go.

It doesn't have to be an evening, either. It's any activity in which the couple does something that allows them to focus on each other, alone together (unless it's a double date), or to enjoy entertainment together (movie, concert). A "real date" means the opposite of "hanging out". A walk in the park can be a date, though those reluctant to put the "date" label on it could consider it "hanging out". If the get-together is planned in advance and involves her leaving the house (and is not about running errands), it's a date.

A real date is something that involves an activity and then food. Activity other than a movie because that's just awkward.

Batting range, bike ride, karaoke, cook together.

The best date ever would be to be taken shopping, though.

Get her a 50 dollar limit visa card, take her to the mall, let her buy things with it. You get to tell what her interests are, and she feels taken care of and nurtured.

Edit: I like Ruth's idea of a concert, that's always exciting if you have similar tastes in music, or even if you don't. You get to learn something about one another.
