I grew up on a farm in a great plains state where the nearest town had a population of 350. Plenty of country boys in the area. Of course, they tend to get married and start families right out of high school...
Rodeos are great...as a rural newspaper reporter in my twenties, I covered rodeo, interviewed a lot of bulldozers and team penners, etc. Nice guys, but largely good ol' boys and kinda dim bulbs. Especially the bullriders...head injuries go with the territory. Still, fun to dance with...
OP - You don't have to go very far to find 'em in Ohio. Get out of Columbus and go see the countryside, will ya? There are TONS of small towns and farm towns in Ohio with the country boys to go along with them. And if you're really creative, you'd get involved with some of the country-type things going on in the small towns around so that you might actually encounter them.
I'm from a small Texas town. I'm probably more familiar with rodeos than anyone here. I have nothing against them, I just wouldn't want a man whose proudest moment in life is only 8 seconds on a cow.
Lots of them where I used to live, for sure! Southern Virginia.
