That's a cop out. The point of generalizations like the OP is whether or not they apply to enough of a majority of people to consider a "general rule".

But knowing that is the easy part. What is 'right'? There is no answer - it is an extremely complicated answer that is unique for every individual, and it never stops changing for that individual.
Love isn't a ten-word homily. It's a complex, partly mysterious, endlessly-shifting array of emotions. And life is richer for the fact that it is that, and not some trite printout on a fortune cookie.
Love can flourish even with minimal nurturing, provided that the partners' world-view does not change. If it does change, no deference of treatment, and indeed, no entreaty - can secure the sustaining of love.
Not necessarily. Dote on your wife nonstop and she'll not respect you or feel suffocated. So treat her well, but in the spirit of partnership. That improves the odds considerably.
