I don't think it's an intentional thing...as in I don't think many people question themselves very often.
That said, if the OP had friendship and the girl as his main concern he wouldn't even be asking "what do I do?"
He might as well just ask "how to I keep pressure on this to ensure she comes to me and not another guy while not coming off as an insincere a-hole in the process"
