My wife was born in Germany, I'm a native American. I'm 9 years older than she is. She has a Master's degree, I have an Associate's (and plenty of "life experience"...) I'm a blue collar worker (by choice) and she's a professional. We're fairly well matched intellectually (we both read a lot and love to travel) Politically, we both tend to be "middle of the road". However, I've probably become somewhat more conservative lately because I'm older and listen to talk radio a fair amount. We are on opposite sides of the Second Amendment issue. I often describe us as "my head's in the clouds, her feet are planted firmly on the ground and we meet in the middle. We both enjoy fine dining and travel. She looks a LOT like my mother, although I don't consciously believe I married her because of that. We're best friends as well as lovers.
We don't match, physically except for our builds (we both have slender legs and arms and little pouch bellies). Otherwise he is white, auburn hair (which I never was attracted to prior to him), and has blue eyes. I am Latina, black hair, and brown eyes. Even some our temperments and personality traits do not match but instead, as another poster stated, we enhance each other.
It is not very often that we look for something totally different from ourself. In general, people who are similar to each other often spend time with each other together.
And now a response from the non-heterosexual segment of the population....
I dated this woman for awhile (I am a woman too) and we are similar height, build, proportions, and people kept calling me by her name. Even her MOTHER I kid you not (but she was close to 80 with failing eyesight). It was pretty funny. After we broke up it REALLY bothered her... : ) She claimed her mother liked me better anyway.
I read your post as whether two people together as a couple matched in appearance. I have noticed that the longer people are together, the more they start looking like each other. This holds true for heterosexual couples and auto racing fans I've seen when they start wearing those matching jackets and sports wear and stuff.
