Am I wrong in feeling hurt that my new boyfriend forgot an important date in the near future and scheduled a work thing? Only a week ago I texted him the date. We spoke about the occasion and what to wear.
Today, he acts surprised about it and says he's working on that day. 'I really wanted to go with you', he said- leaving me feeling that he already gave up. I texted him to see if he could reschedule. No word.

HM- I tend to read a lot into this. He's very attentive otherwise, but this knocked me in the heart.

Bummer.

He should have CALLED, apologized profusely and made up ASAP by rescheduling and sticking to it.

Words mean nothing, action is what counts. Sorry

As far as the "important date" goes, if he did not make a written note of it he forgot about it but that does not mean it doesn't mean anything to him.
My husband forgot about our 2nd Anniversary and took a load to be gone that day. When he told me about his work schedule later all I said was "Monday" and it immediately hit him he made a huge mistake and had forgotten about what we had talked about for weeks beforehand.
He was able to schedule to leave later on Monday so we could at least spend part of the day together but he certainly did not forget intentionally.

Perhaps your guy has a lot on his mind, did not write it down, is required to be at work that day for the start of a new project or whatever, depending on his employment.

I would not read much into at all, he is human, he is not required to be perfect and things like this happen from time to time.

Its not like he's goofing off, he's working. Personally I think thats pretty admirable in this day and age to have a little bit of work ethic. Whether you make this a big deal or not is up to you.

If you made it known that it's important to you, he should have made note - no matter what it was.

Some men seem to develop Alzheimer's when it comes to important dates, though. I dated someone for almost four years and he never once remembered my birthday.
