I wouldn't date a man who smoked.

I'm in the process of quitting smoking and it sucks, I've already gained three pounds. So knowing how tough it is to quit smoking, I wouldn't really take her promise seriously.

I would not date a man that smoked, I don't care WHAT he promised. I know how that goes.

Nope. No thanks. Know too many people that have gone back to cigs. Chewing tabacco? Ewwwww. GROSS.

I heard this quote a couple of weeks ago:

"If you [date/marry] somebody for their potential, you'll wake up to their reality."

As harsh as it sounds, unless she was in the final stages of quitting, I wouldn't even consider dating her.

Not only do I think smoking is one of the least intelligent decisions you can make, being in a room with smokers (or even the smell of cigars) triggers my migraines, so it's also a logistical issue.

totally. as a person who quit smoking, that'd be pretty hypocritical of me not to. Either way, smoking doesn't bother me.

Even if she quits, she's still the kind of person who would start smoking. Given the abundant knowledge available today, starting smoking means the person is seriously conformist/vulnerable to Peer Pressure - or just really, really stupid. I'd consider smoking to be symptomatic of too many other deficiencies in a person. Dumb? Conformist? Low class? Self-destructive?

Who needs somebody like that?

If she's promising to quit, why not just date her after she quits?
