I'm in the process of quitting smoking and it sucks, I've already gained three pounds. So knowing how tough it is to quit smoking, I wouldn't really take her promise seriously.

I heard this quote a couple of weeks ago:
"If you [date/marry] somebody for their potential, you'll wake up to their reality."
As harsh as it sounds, unless she was in the final stages of quitting, I wouldn't even consider dating her.
Not only do I think smoking is one of the least intelligent decisions you can make, being in a room with smokers (or even the smell of cigars) triggers my migraines, so it's also a logistical issue.
Even if she quits, she's still the kind of person who wouldstart smoking. Given the abundant knowledge available today, starting smoking means the person is seriously conformist/vulnerable to Peer Pressure - or just really, really stupid. I'd consider smoking to be symptomatic of too many other deficiencies in a person. Dumb? Conformist? Low class? Self-destructive?
If she's promising to quit, why not just date her after she quits?
