Oh come on, I thought that commercial was funny the first time I saw it.
It's not about brainwashing young men. The moderately attractive guy uses a goofy pickup line on a moderately attractive gal and is genuinely pleased when she responds positively. It was cute!
If anything, those Victoria Secret commercials are brainwashing young men into thinking that normal women walk around with perfect bronzed skin and extraordinarily long torsos.
Why does the media brainwash young men into thinking that calling/telling/genuinely believing that women are beautiful will attract them/make them swoon?
It gives men the idea that some geeky unattractive dude can get a woman just by telling her she's beautiful. Nothing is further from the truth in real life.
Maybe it makes for good TV?
Yeah, that commercial isn't even close to brainwashing. I think you're seeing what you want to see. That said, media outlets are trying to sell things/make money with ads, not tell men how attraction works.
You guys never got the joke. That "fell from heaven" line practically never works.
Let's face it, alot of girls secretly are geeks. They just keep their interests private, since they think that isn't attractive. But it is. It's beautiful, in fact. So, you can call the idea of this unrealistic and brainwashing if you want. But that's like saying all jocks get girls.
If that were actually so, all men would be musclebound brutes, as other men would die off from the gene pool.
I realized the otherwise was the case when I was in a mall and saw a hardcore anime geek hanging out with a hot as sin gal. I figured she was just humoring his interests, until she started talking about how the store didn't have any Ranma 1/2.
Uhhh, most guys aren't doing this or buying into it.. just the ones that are socially inept to begin with.
The media and movies are not responsible for teaching guys how to pick up women or treat women, they are responsible for entertainment and making money.
I like the commercial, but to answer your question. Any and all media ultimately answer to their advertisers. They in turn answer to the demographic of people that buy their products and/or services, in other words consumers. And I think women tend to be more of the consumers (wether directly or indirectly) of these products and/or services than men tend to be.

Did you get a good look at the woman he was talking to? She was very plain. And the guy, if you take away the glasses, was decent-looking, if geeky. They were actually kind of a good match, which was intentional on the part of the ad writers. You don't think a woman like that would be caught off-guard and flattered by the attention?
I actually just watched the commercial now that I'm free. How the heck do you even draw the kind of conclusion you made from the OP by this commercial.
I'm dumbfounded how you even take a deeper look into something like this. Just laugh and call it a day.
