and believe you ME, morals and respect have never, ever, in human history, been too far from the lip of the drain. people talk about the good old days- and that's crap. the good old days is when someone got raped and it wasn't on a talk show. when people did drugs and kept it SECRET. scratch the surface of any period in human history known as the good old days and you will find nothing but vermin. people talk about the fifties as if it were some sort of 10-year-long nirvana. probably was apart from jim crow, mccarthyism, j.edgar hoover and his thugs, widespread corruption, LSD testing on american soldiers (sometimes without their knowledge).......AHHHHHHHHHH. the good old days. give me a break!!!!!!!!! there was no such thing. there HAS NEVER BEEN IN HUMAN HISTORY ANY PERIOD OF TIME THAT WAS DEVOID OF MURDER, INCEST, DISRESPECT, RAPE AND PILLAGE, WAR, AND CERTAINLY NOT CURSING. if you want to live in an imaginary, Ozzie-and-Harriet delusion, that is your call. But please don't talk about it as if there existed somewhere in our past this time period that was somehow, miraculously, devoid of all corruption and potty-talking, and oh, how i wish we could return to those halcyon days.....because they never existed. i think we got bigger problems that some curse words. if somebody wants to get their panties twisted over it, fine, but we sensible people also reserve the right to make fun of you. and i am offended if i can't exercise that right.

In a free society, class, courtesy, civility, consideration, and caring are choices. You can choose whether to do them or not.
There are some people who seem to be in a "classlessness competition" (both men and women, or should I say boys and girls). Perhaps their role models are Bart Simpson and Beavis and Butthead.
Perhaps it's a counterculture trend. Such trends have been around for as long as I can remember. Some people want to rebel against social standards. But when you have large numbers of people doing it in more or less the same way (like hippies, punks, gangstas with baggy pants, etc.), then they start looking like conformists, like they're trying to follow a trend in order to fit in and look cool. Would they be doing it if it weren't trendy? Most of them, probably not. They wouldn't have the interest, nor the guts.
I guess that's fine, if that's what makes them happy, popular, or whatever. I'm basically a "live and let live" kind of guy.
Where this becomes a problem is, for example, I take my family out to dinner and you're in the next booth using loud profanities. Maybe you reserve the right to do that, but I also reserve the right to walk up to your table, turn around, and let a big F.art rip right in your face. Would I stoop that low? Probably not. But I reserve the right to.

well, i will agree with that. i admit that i blush when i hear cursing and there is an old person or a child around. i really hate that- its a pet peeve. but a blanket condemnation of funky language is not i think, what you are pushing. common sense and decency. but when you are around adults, say, at a party, and you use colorful language, if someone thought i was being low-class because of the language, why, i would be rather shocked. like, might-drag-you-in-the-alley shocked. (just kidding?)
unless of course it were a church group. in which case you know EVERYBODY would be cursing up a storm!
