They see what you look like when you send them a message. Whether it's a well thought out message or a brief sentence or 2 long doesn't matter. If women are not impressed with the picture, you're not going to get a message, or a message that wasn't worth the effort in reading.
That's what I've learned from OLD. I have nothing but time wasted trying to message women with well-written messages and simple, brief messages. It's what you look like that will make them reply.
It's a shame that it has to be that way but that's the way it is with OLD. I'm met some great guys in the real world that weren't my type looks wise but when I got to know them that didn't matter. Unfortunately unless a person has a really great profile, that personality doesn't always come through in a profile.
I've been widowed almost 6 years and I had a few dates from Christian Mingle and one of the free ones. I can't remember which one. I had the most success with CM but then I realized I'm happy alone.
Nothing wrong with your strategy, OP, I do the same. Oh, I usually add something specific that refers to their profile that interests me. A long message seems desperate, somehow, and of course, no message at all isn't very effective!
I have had more relationships (including my current one) develop with men who contacted me first than from those I contacted first. To me, that indicates those guys found me attractive in the first place. And of course, that they were confident enough to just put it out there and man enough to handle the possibility they wouldn't get a response without taking it personally.
