Recently came across this article, and then this short video of Louis CK.

Not Everyone Is Beautiful | Mindless Productivity

Quote:

[...]

There are plenty of people that are not physically appealing to look at, the primary and most widely used meaning of the word “beautiful”. So why do we use the word as a catch-all for any sort of positive attribute?

Nobody says, “Everybody is a good listener.” Nobody says, “Everyone is athletic to somebody.” Nobody says, “You are an amazing writer, whether you know it or not.” I keep waiting, but they never say it.

Beauty is the only trait that everyone gets free access to. Why?

[...]
Do you agree?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUgQPzq6ifc

I am posting this here because so often we're told "everyone is beautiful" and "there's someone for everyone" when it comes to dating and relationships. But there are many people whose experiences don't line up with this. They don't get the girl/guy or a girl/guy (a lasting relationship) no matter how hard they try or how good of a person they are. The author of the article argues that not only is everyone not beautiful, just as everyone is not a good musician or artist, but it can give many people a false sense of hope. Also, that it ignores the very reality that exists, that beautiful people have a lot of advantages in life, whether or not they admit it.

I agree with the article when it says to everyone...

"You are valuable.

You are important.

You are interesting.

You are worth loving."

When people refer to others as "beautiful" they don't necessarily mean physically beautiful.

Of course we know not everyone is physically beautiful.

But many physically less appealing folks are indeed "beautiful" people for who they ARE, not for what they look like on the outside.

Anybody that's in the ugly spectrum already know the lid doesn't fit the pot. But one can improvise and use one that covers the pot

Well i get complements for men and woman about my looks and no one ever has said to me That i am ugly . In fact when i was online dating a few years v\back all the woman that I went out with said i look better in person than my picture.

You know that test you take in high school that tell you what you should do with your life it said male model as one of the options I was like um OK that was weird.

I've never heard the "everyone is beautiful" line. But I've heard "everyone has something to contribute", "everyone has a talent to share with the world" my whole life, pretty much. When did this "everyone is beautiful" thing start?

I'm definitely not beautiful and unfortunately, there is no one for me.

Even if physical beauty eludes you...STILL,

"You are valuable.

You are important.

You are interesting.

You are worth loving."

Oh how sweet.

I honestly don't believe in the whole fate thing with love anymore though.
