The reason I ask: a few days ago I was talking to a 40-something female friend who has been online-dating and she said she's fed up with guys in their 40's and 50's. She said "Most guys in their 40's and 50's are a$$holes. They're sexist and racist; they're not open-minded about anything."

So women, is my friend correct? To what extent do you agree or disagree with her? What have your experiences with 40-something/50-something men been like? Please include your age when you respond.

I like guys in their 40's just like any age though, if they aren't jerks.

My husband and I married last year.

He was 41. I was 44.

I would not have married him if he was sexist, racist and an a$$hole.

I like guys in their 40's...however I'm not in the dating scene so there might be a different breed there.

There are as*holes in all age brackets, gotta weed through it sometimes.

Liberal, enlightened, happy guys in their 40's and 50's aren't sexist and racist. Conservative guys may be. They're like any other demographic: a mixed bag. Generalizing is for idiots.

She sounds like an a$$hole who is not open-minded herself!

I'm in my 50's, last long term relationship was with someone in their 40's we met while I was in my 40's still dated up till a couple of years ago. While in my 40's, I dated men 20 something (the 26 was by mistake, he lied about his age,) through 50's, but mostly in my 50's I've stayed with 40's and 50's, they are no better or worse than any other age group. I don't get this boxing people into categories in such a way. The racist thing more of level iq thing, so to speak, with some people.

most of the men I talk to at church are in their 40s and 50s and are nothing like that . Sometimes both sexes at that age have their own mindset and set in their ways to where they can no longer be flexible in their thinking and they know what they like and that is what they are looking for and that is what it is .So maybe she is running into people who have their mind set to what they are looking for and she is not it .

Maybe she lives in a conservative area where people tend to be like that anyway.
