Depends on the person using the word. Like for me, the word "handsome" can be used for women and men. But it sounds masculine to me, so I never say "handsome woman."
For me, I wouldn't want a guy to call me cute. Sounds like it means "sweet personality, but not attractive to date." lol even though it can mean different things for different people, I just never see it as a compliment regarding relationship or sex. It's what you call a baby or pet imo.
When it comes to women, I'm far more likely to fall for the "cute" type vs. the "hot" type. Not that my wife isn't hot, but she's "cute" first, if that makes sense.

Good description (for both genders), but I've found that just because she's cute and not overtly sexual, doesn't mean she's not sexual behind closed doors.

If I find someone attractive in a super sexual way, then I would describe them as hot.
