I prefer, not taking an S.O to the gym. I want to be fully focused on my workout, and not have to worry about someone else. We can, however, do some other activity outside the gym (running, hiking, cycling, etc)

I'm pretty private about working out and don't really like doing it with a friend or a significant other. I prefer to go solo and enjoy my thoughts.

Couldn't your SO focus on her own workout, while you're doing yours? What's to worry about?

We do our own workouts. There's a gym at our college but guys and girls have their own rooms.

I have been lifting for the better part of 12 years. Most the time alone as I prefer my workouts. If occasional friends want to jump in that's fine but I don't alter my plan for someone else, in that case we lift apart.

The first year and a half with my gf nothing changed. I lifted and it was fine. Just like any girl I dated.

A year and a half ago she expressed interest in working out with me. Other than some cross country sje hadn't exercised much, and was naturally pretty thin.

So, she started lifting with me. It was a bit of work teaching her everything. Perfect form, etc etc.

Now? She KILLS it in the gym. Love having her as a lifting partner. She does the same bodybuilding workouts I do. She went fro. 5'1 and 110lbs to about 117ish give or take. She squats 185 for 6 perfect reps. She also now eats exactly like me (she even does all the cooking) and we eat 6 balanced meals a day.

We occasionally do a couple different exercises. I'll go to leg press and hack squat and leg extensions while she does more glute focused workouts. From squatting so much her quads are so muscular she avoids direct training of them, rightfully so.

It all depends on your partner. For me she is amazing. She pushes me and I push her. She NEVER complains and is very receptive qhen I give her advice or critique her form.

I seriously could not begin to count how many men have approached me at the gym to tell me how awesome it is to see a woman lift like she does. Its flattering for her and i take great pride in it as well.

Sharing a hobby you love like that with your SO is awesome. To each their own though. If she did yoga, plyos, and ran instead of lifting with me that'd be fine to as long as she stayed active and ate right.

I prefer working out by myself and my husband hates going to the gym. So there you go.

My exes and I used to go together a lot. It's fun to shoot some b-ball with your man, do stretches and weights together.

I especially love blasting up music in the dance room and doing some weird crazy moves only we can laugh to.

Like this awesome guy right here :
