My DH and I dated for 5 years, got engaged for one year and got married and moved in together 10 days before our wedding. I'm kind of old-fashioned and I didn't want to shack up with him until I had a marriage certificate in my hand, LOL. Or, at least, not shack up for too long, hence the 10 days. And I spent 4 days of those at my parents house, too!
I moved in very slowly after marriage. It actually took me about 3 months to fully move in. One reason is that I had a great home office in "my house" that I still went to every day to "work".
We met on a blind date on 2-4-1972. We got married on 4-29-1972. Now we were apart for a month that I was in South America in March. So, actually, we only spent two months dating before moving in together.
I think it should be a long time before moving in together...I havent experienced it for myself, but all my friends were unhappy after moving in together without even knowing each other perfectly..so I think people should take their time when they think about moving in.
Nearly two years. We maintained separate residences till we got married because we both owned our own homes.
It's easier to shack up when you're young and just renting a place to live. You might not have many possessions. So once your lease is up you can move.
Also, it's sort of nice to be able to go home when you're still dating. Trust me on this. Sometimes you need "space" when you're in the early stages of a relationship, especially if you've been independent for awhile.
We didn't move in together until after we got married. We dated for about 3 months and got engaged. Six months later we got married. We didn't even have sex until after the wedding. Still going strong after 38 years.
Less than 3 months??? Thats insane. I might do 6 months now, but the last woman I moved in with, I married. Big mistake. But she moved into my house after a year. I think thats a good timeline. I'd only do it sooner now because I'm older and don't want to waste time.
