It's really strange. Whenever we are in line getting food or at a grocery store etc....he will almost always start talking about his job and how he did something great or had to discipline his coworkers etc....(probably exaggerated) or he will talk about his gun, what kind it is and concealed carry etc....it doesn't make any sense. We are around strangers. People who most likely we wouldn't run into again. It happens almost every time now. He talks about it to me only but loud so others hear.

Oh, my mother was like that and she had many of the traits of a narcissist. We all were so embarrassed when she would start in about her trips with complete strangers who just happened to be a captive audience, and then she'd run out to the car to get her photo albums so she could show the shopkeeper about her safari trip. She didn't treat me very well but she would brag like crazy about my least little accomplishment just to get attention.
My theory about why she'd do that with complete strangers is b/c the strangers are "fresh blood," as in, they will be more likely to be (or act) totally impressed, whereas we'd all heard it before. This will not get better I assure you.
"Why does my husband talk about how important he is in public?"
Probably because he doesn't feel very important in private.
