On numerous TV programs, stories of people, for instance this one man and women, who were married, were living together, then the women's sister came in and lived with them. What happened, the sister and husband got drunk, and had sex.

Or other stories, a man and women live together, then have a women or guy move in and live together and cheating occurs, and sex happens etc.

Why does this happen when people live together and invite others to live with them? Why can't they be smart enough and avoid this from happening altogether? Has this happened to any of you?

Errrrm...I feel like this is likely an extremely rare situation. People are stupid in many ways, this is just one?

If you're talking about reality shows, those people are chosen because the producers want there to be big drama that will have everybody talking and tuning in to see what happens. If you're talking about sitcoms and dramas, same thing--it's made up to be titillating and outrageous.

In real life, people living together often just get on each other's nerves. That's why the saying "Familiarity breeds contempt" exists.

TV shows are boring if nothing is happening, so they only make shows about stuff happening.

If you don't enjoy watching people make such stupid decisions, make different TV viewing choices. There, problem solved.

I have never had this happen to me...the couple of bf's I lived with were smart enough to do their cheating elsewhere.

Well, first of all, married couples invited other people to live with them doesn't happen that often - or at least not that I'm aware of. And secondly, if it was common and it usually resulted in cheating, then it wouldn't make good TV because it would be so commonplace. There's a reason that they show stuff like that on TV. I've never heard of this happening to anyone I know in real life.

Birds of a feather and all that.

What kind of adults find themselves needing to move into someone's house or allowing other people to move in? Trashy folks make trashy decisions.

It's pretty common. Something like 1/3 of all households have a roommate. It becomes more common as the COL increases. In NYC about half of the households have a roommate.

Availability. The number one reason people cheat is availability. The infirmed, transplanted from somewhere else, and unemployed are not busy. They are sitting on your couch all day. Available and handy.

You could be a wonderful SO, and be supporting everyone in the house; but, you arent available. You are at work. You are tired when you get home. You have a headache maybe. Possibly a bad day killed your mood.

The person that sat on the couch all day only has maybe a sore butt. You are not available, but they are.
