Men and women just aren't interested in dating anymore. The modern dating world is a joke and so many decide it's not worth the effort. Add in the fact that men and women are becoming less attractive to each other.

Men (and women) are giving up on dating because there is too much competition from other sources.
Most men don't have to have a girlfriend because the primary purpose of having one is sex and they can get orgasms for free in the privacy (well, Google knows but they are God) of their own home with online porn. Also, there are other avenues that cost money but may actually be cheaper in the long run because a man doesn't have to deal with break ups and possibly having their personal property damaged by a scorned woman. Also, with feminism around many American chicks are too difficult to lead and dominate. And then you add in the possibility of contracting an STD or an accidental pregnancy and then you have a situation where the cards are stacked against men.

My personal view is that dating is unpleasant and the ends don't justify the means.
Investing in just about anything else makes more sense to me than investing in another human being based on a feeling that you/they have at that particular moment.

I don't know anyone who isn't interested in dating. And I would say that the majority of the people that I know are either married or would like to get married. I do know some people that have chosen to legally not get married - but they are not as numerous as the couples that I know that are married or getting married.

I don't agree with the Op but I do believe that dating sucks for the most part. Just a roller coaster of emotions with marginal payoff if you are lucky.
