Probably not. I've been dating my current girlfriend since September and in that time we've spoken on the phone less than 10 times and usually only when we have plans to meet somewhere and one of us is running late. Neither one of us are much for the phone and we both lead busy lives so it's not uncommon for either of us to take 20 minutes to a couple hours responding to a text message. There is a flexibility there that can't be matched with a phone call.
Of course, it also helps that it is about a 10 minute drive from my door to hers and we see each other consistently. If we did not get to see each other so consistently I imagine we would call each other more often.
I've been in a couple of relationships where I was expected to return every text, answer my phone and at times talk on the phone at night for two or more hours.
Never again.
If I am interesting and desired enough to warrant constant contact: the newly evolved rule has been - just come over. I refuse to be tied to my phone as a source of instant attention on demand.
Towards the end of one relationship, I started turning my phone off at night when I got home from work. This caused an overly needy girlfriend to start initiating coming over every night. It was like she either needed to keep me on the phone 2-3 hours or just come over and invade my life every night. Which would have been ok, but she had other guys on hold, never tried to take the relationship to a mature and committed level and ultimately cheated.
I don't think the people in my age group are fond of talking on the phone. Calling someone is almost considered weird, in a day where everyone texts and snapchats. I honestly don't see the point in chatting on the phone. I'll talk to you when I see you, but in the meantime we can send a few texts back and forth.
