Default Are your friends equal to you in social status and appearance?

I love to watch people over at the huge regional shopping mall near my home. One thing I have been noticing recently is the physical and style similarities of people who hang out together. People seem to have a sixth sense for determining where they fit in the beauty, class, style, and social status front and pick friends who are similar in that way.

While there are serious exceptions, I notice that most women who hang out together seem to be of equal status when it comes to their appearance, weight, social and economic status, and popularity. For example, rarely will you see a very overweight woman friends with a real skinny woman. Beautiful girls will hang out with other beauty queens. Women who buy really expensive looking clothes will hang out with others who share a similar fashion and spending philosophy.

How are your friends when it comes to matching your social, economic and appearance status? (No PC talk or denial people!)

I will sort of agree with you... I have friends of all different status and appearances, but the ones I usually hang out with and actually go out and do things with are more like me. Its just normal to be drawn to someone like you.

This doesn't ring true for me, although I do see it socially, as well as in the workplace. But, personally, my friends are extremely diverse (in every way imaginable, not going to list all the differences). I'd be bored stiff if we were all carbon copies of each other!! Maybe I was like that in junior high...now, not so much. The one thing all of my friends and I do share in common: off-the wall sense of humor. We do a lot of laughing!

If I wanted to find friends who dressed like me, I would have to go to the Homeless Shelter.

But they probably wouldn't let me in because I am obviously too well fed and I drive a nice car.

Many of my long-term friends I met at college, graduate school, work, etc., so they might tend - by definition - to be at the same social status as far as education, etc. However, my friends come in all shapes and sizes. Some like material things, some *hate* material things (that is, they hate emphasis on material things). Some are tall and thin, some are quite frankly on the obese side. So, I guess I would say this doesn't fit in my case.

no, if you want the truth, I'm in prison....

everyone else is out...and I'm in...and it's no fair...cuz the social status in here stinks.

Actually and seriously, I have all different friends and each of them are uniquely special, and it doesn't matter to me what social status...

what matters to me is that I like em....and they like me....

Hugs
Creme

I'm wondering why anyone would want to surround themselves only with the like-minded? Seems kind of sheltered/ shallow to me.

As for me, my friends are all over the board. Different races, different classes, different looks. I don't find myself the least bit good looking, so to me, all my friends are better looking than me! And my best-friend is a money-making-machine and I'm a stay-at-home wife. Go figure!

Guess what I look for in friends is, are they good people? Then let's give 'em a shot at friendship.

I like to people-watch too. I do think that is true. It also maybe gives them things to talk about with so many similarities. I also tend to hang out with people with similar parenting styles.

Not sure about this. I've seen unattractive (fat) women hang out with a good looking friend. Perhaps some females enjoy this because it means less competition for them.
