As the adage goes, nobody notices the rotation of the clock-hands while busy. But when the cadence of life decelerates, we start noticing irritations and flaws that heretofore we took in stride.
We've seen on this Forum quite a spectrum of strife in relationships: from wanton and disgusting abuse, to utterly picayune and ridiculously trifling quibbles, and anything in between. It's gratifying to finally read of what appears to be a sober apprehending of the situation, and a route towards reconciliation. Too often we're quick to exit an unpleasant situation, reacting sharply to the slightest provocation. It's refreshing to see an example where age really does bring experience and wisdom.
As has already been mentioned, the OP won't change her spouse's nature. But it's not his nature that needs to change. We can remain who we are, not foregoing our principles, and yet also become more accommodating and more responsive. Sometimes only a gentle nudge is what's required. And it sounds like the OP has been successful in that. I wish her and her husband all the best.

Sometimes men need to know what they have to loose. Moving out for a bit might make him realize it. I wish my ex would have shook me earlier and not waited until her feelings were completely gone.
