Can anyone give examples of pointing out the difference?

Arguing is simply a difference of opinion and both are arguing. Basically maybe a little higher raised voices some pfft yeah ok I can't believe this that no way are you kidding me stuff

One party screaming while the other cowers in fear because of the threats is mental abuse. Being called cruel demeaning names, total destruction of self esteem and always living in fear of the other person to not make them mad

Arguing can be discussing issues loudly, emotionally. Verbal abuse is when the arguing turns nasty/ugly, and someone departs from the subject matter, the issue at hand, to call the other person names, or to yell mean things (personal affronts). Like, "I never loved you", or "you always were a sl**". It's when the arguing gets personal and becomes demeaning.

That just means he has a limited vocabulary. Throw a dictionary at him. Aim for the head. Throw hard. It might sink in

That's not exactly verbal abuse.

That's true. Verbal abuse can be subtle, it doesn't have to be delivered by yelling, or in a conflict. Belittling someone, and treating things that are important to them as jokes, or routinely not taking them seriously are a type of verbal abuse.

Verbal abuse-Prolonged arguing over the same issues to torment the other person and belittle them. It's a pattern not a one off.
