This. Smile, OP. Take on a disarming and approachable manner. Think: gentle. It might take practice, but it will pay off. Offer to help people, if you see someone struggling with packages or trying to unload furniture or building supplies or something awkward from the car. Greet your neighbors cheerfully. And smile. Or did I say that already?

Could it be what you're wearing? lots of camo, knives peeking out of each sock, visible holster? If no, then maybe you have a scowl and you don't realize…

I generally prefer bald men. It's so much easier than trying to tell them that they have a bad haircut.
