Ah, it really isn't so bad if things are kept in perspective. Interact, have fun and remember you have a real life. Some of the people I have met were strange but a couple were very nice, rather like any other gathering of people. Sort thru the offerings and find what works for you.

I think it was singles meetup,dinner meetup. I can't remember,there are so many. best go with something you like.
next to interest there is zip code,did you try?
