My sister just got a response to some questions she sent a potential date on an online dating site. In his response, the guy referred to himself in the third person the entire time. My sister and I both find it very strange and off-putting. Why would someone do that? Is it an attempt at humor?
FYI, don't respond to questions in the third person if you want a normal person to continue to communicate with you.
perhaps they are just out of marine boot camp where the recruits are required to refer to themselves in the third person as a team building exercise?

CPG met Bo Jackson years ago when he was a senior in high school. Mr. Jackson had a speech impediment that made it hard for him to say the personal pronoun, "I." So he referred to himself as Bo to avoid being made fun of. Of course, how someone would have the nerve to ridicule Bo Jackson is beyond me.

If it puts you off OP fine. Me personally, I just don't understand what the big deal is about referring to yourself in 3rd person. Diss is not feeling the outrage.
