I have been wondering about that and curious what people think . . . I would think that if each person is willing to compromise (and work on other issues in the relationship) it might work.

There are certain things I'm not willing to compromise on - and smoking is one of them. I couldn't be in a relationship with a smoker. But that's me. Others can make it work.

It can be rough...I'm an ex-smoker so I sympathize with my bf. However, he is not allowed to smoke in the house. He can smoke on the deck and in the garage - in the summer the garage door has to be open.

As it is, I still don't like the smell of smoke in the garage...or the cars but I figure it is a compromise. He says he'll quit, but I know how that goes... and the relationship is not based on the expectation that he actually will.

For most people I'd say it doesn't work and is a constant battle - you have to have very clear lines what you'll put up with.

Sure, I think if the non smoker could say "no big deal" they can get along just fine.

Why does every non smoker have to absolutely despise smokers?

Personally, I wouldn't like it because I'd be too tempted to start smoking again. I'm sure there are many people out there who would deal with it.

This is one of the very few absolute deal-breakers for me, no compromise at all on this. I would never date or be in a relationship with a smoker.

It's certainly possible. It really depends on how flexible the non-smoker is, IMO. Personally, I'd rather be alone than be with someone who smoked....not saying I'm right, but I think a lot of non-smokers feel that way.

You're telling us you do this and it works? Somehow I doubt it. I wish it was that easy.
