Every woman that I known that wanted a man that was good looking ended up getting used and cheated on. If they went for an average looking to a below average looking man this scenario would happen less likely, but can happen.

of course not, but if a guy knows that he is what the majority of women are looking for he has less reason to be with just one woman.
And by the same token if a guy knows he is not what most women are looking for he will be on best behavior cause he knows he only gets one chance.
Basically if a guy is a 5, or a 6 on a good day and most of his life the best he could attract was a 6 or an alcoholic 7 but then one day the heavens smile on him and he attracts an 8, 9 or alchoholic 10, that guy (usually) wont even look at another woman while a guy who is an 8, 9 or 10 on a good day will view her as "just another chic" and if that 8-10 guy has a good job, nice car and pimped out house/condo/apartment why would he want to settle down for one woman?
unless he wants kids, and most of the time he wont be faithful because he does not have to be.

On what world does an alcoholic anything become a 10?
The older you get you find you have to love their personality! That is what makes them special. After 25 or so most ppl's looks begin to fade, you will be shocked at how shallow you were during your peak years. I can remember meeting someone and thinking I will in love with them based on their looks alone. After 3 weeks I was sick of this guys ego but he still was hot. We ended up just seeing each other like every other week, and you don't want your relationships to be like that! Although there are certain things IE Eyes, hair color, and body frame that attracts you at first, they have to have a great personality, and I have found a great personality can improve ones looks a lot too!
its not the booze its the genetics, just saying that usually when a 5 hooks up with a 10 there is usually booze or money involved.
I'm like a -2 or worse, and there's no way I'd date an alcoholic, not matter how attractive she is. That is a destructive disease that ruins the lives of everyone around that person including them.
