i think the second or 3rd message is the right time

i feel like waiting and talking online gives false hope
i like to send a introduction, ask a question then say something like

"how about we grab some coffee after work this week"

does that sound legit?

or to early?

Ask when you want to ask. Let the dialogue that is occurring and your feel for the situation guide you.

Might be 2nd message, might be 5th, might be never. The person I met last night asked me in her very first message. Stop looking for rules.

Depends on how the conversation is going. How long are the private messages? Does you profile contain enough info about you? In general most guys seemed to ask me on message 3 (sometimes two).

Too soon for me. I liked having an actual conversation/dialogue (no small talk) online and then a phone conversation or two before meeting. I never once met anyone without first talking on the phone.
