You'll never know. And feelings change.

The reason I said that is because my aunt has been married 5 times. I don't want end up like her. Divorced 5 times and bitter towards the opposite sex.

So stop at 4.

Marriage is a gamble. Not much you can do about it, unfortunately.

Sounds like I won't consider marriage for a long time unless Im truly in love and so is my partner
Way too many divorce and cheating stories.. i feel like its just the norm now
Actually, the divorce rate has been declining. If you fixate on divorce, you'll find a lot of evidence to confirm your bias. But the stats say it's declining, and of first-time marriages, over 60% are successful lifetime unions.

Nobody is arguing this as an option. Nobody's required to marry if they choose not to.

I will be objective here for a minute, and provide an argument that everyone here has failed to. Divorce rate is indeed declining, you can look up the offical stats and its pretty evident. A counter argument to that is that since a lot less people marry, also backed by official statistics, and they marry later in life - those marriages tend to last, because those who decide to marry are a lot more certain of their mate choice than say someone back in the 60s, who got married because of social pressures or due to pregnancy etc etc. So yes, in this sense these marriages tend to be more lasting than marriages of decades before.

And this is exactly what many of us have been saying, this whole thread - that those who decide to marry, and do so only when they have done their due diligence and are as certain as it's possible to be that they have chosen a compatible mate with mutually compatible values, it's more likely to be a lasting marriage. It's not "an argument that everyone here has failed to do." It's come up a million times. And it's also, well, common sense.

Common sense is entirely too uncommon.
