I need to add that I did meet some nice men online, including my s/o and had some silly and crazy experiences but everything turned out okay in the end. Most of them liked to talk about ex wives and girlfriends a little too much for my taste.

That's a good way to rate a man or any person, is if they have a dog or pet. Watch how they treat the pet. Men with dogs are good people in my observation.

The more I sit and think about this date, the more I'd like to send him an email containing the phrases "loose my number", "you can't buy class" and "my xboyfriend with a crack habit had more charm than you seem to possess."

yes, indeed you should have
that is why its easier to meet for coffee...neither one of you are committed to a long drawn out disappointment...and if things go well, you can always extend the date...but dinner for the first meeting is like sacrificing yourself to the Gods...LOL
I'm sorry it turned south....but keep on trying....you never know....

As a reserved (read:shy) guy in my 20's, I found online dating to be a great idea. Granted, I did have a number of bad dates. Heck, I was probably a "bad date" myself, in retrospect, in terms of talking too much about the negative stuff in my life at the time. But I've had some decent dates who turned into offline friends. If I hadn't met one particular lady online, I wouldn't have gotten to know the circle of friends I hung with for my last several years in Philly.
That said, I do realize that people can be a little bolder or untruthful when they are socializing from behind a computer... and that it can lead to some awkward moments in person. I'm sorry that the OP had a bad experience ... but I do think online dating can work for some people. Of course, now that I'm in my 30's, happily involved and a bit more gregarious, I'd hope that I wouldn't have to return to that option.

Does he know that you were not impressed with his 'charm'?

The date ending with him saying something to the effect of well I'll be seeing you around town?.....And I believe I looked at him with that "I must be looking at a science project" look...
