This is kind of wierd. Who has a SO who up and leaves to walk down the coast for 6 months? Who is paying his cell phone bill? Where is his mail going?
Id text him one more time, tell him you are getting rid of his stuff, unless he gives you instructions otherwise. Then keep that text message in case he comes back and wants to sue you for his stuff.

OP you could be annoying to him to. Highly unlikely somebody is just going to up and leave their SO for months. That makes no sense.
