Yeah, that's what I couldn't figure out; how come the hot water doesn't run out during a 60-mn. shower, or even 45-mins? But the OP hasn't come back to answer questions.

I really think he's exaggerating the shower length. Sure it may be long by his standards, but I don't know anyone who takes hour showers and this is coming from someone who takes long showers. The longest my showers have been is about 30 minutes, then my fingers start wrinkling.

OP could do what my father used to do. Turn the hot water off at the pipe connection valve. That would end my mother's shower right now. (He was rather sadistic. Poor mom)

I don't understand why you'd agree to pay more than 1/2 the rent? How do they bill you your water and the heat for hot water. Considering how much water she uses, and heat to heat it, I'd let her pay her fair share of the bill, then let it go. If you're subsidizing her hot showers, expect her to treat it like free money, she'll take all she can get.

You are both grown people, and one is not the parent of the other. She could chide you for taking five minute showers and not being truly clean. Of course, that would be inappropriate because she is not your mother.

Adults do t need to parent each other.

If she doesn't now, she will in another 10 years if she keeps it up.

Or move to an apartment complex like mine, where hot water is included in the rent. At least you'll get your money's worth with long showers.

She said "I'll shower as long as I want." And then something to the effect of "you didn't have to move in if you don't like it."

Meanwhile I pay 70% of the rent, since I earn much more than her. I was really put off by her comment. I don't like to find arguments but I'm really turned off by her selfishness in this regard. It makes me wonder if she even knows how bad a drought we have? Not that her actions alone are using up all our water, but it's still not right in my opinion.

By the way, we're both in out 40s.
Thoughts?
This is the more troubling thing...really??
Is this how she handles every disagreement??

turn off the hot water heater and move out
