This seems likely.

Lots of people have ONE problem or jerk friend. But if there is a collection of jerks, yeah, that makes one wonder.

I agree 100% to your statement.

I think we all have that one or two friends we "grew out of" that is still in our lives in some way because they never did anything wrong...they just do not fit in with our current life/lifestyle and have followed a much different path.

...but that's a far cry from have a whole collection of friends who are nothing but jerks, manipulators and just plain old dirt bags who are only out for themsleves.

If you keep that kind of company you are either a dirt bag yourself or way too close to see the danger you are allowing in to your life.

Clarification here: It's the OP wife's friends that he doesn't like. As has been discussed, if you marry someone who has friends you don't like, they're not your friends, they're your spouse's friends.

Don't forget that when someone is in a bad relationship or marriage, they often have groups of friends/relatives who try to intervene and get them out. Those groups are often painted as the "bad guys" by the partner in these scenarios.

And one of the hallmarks of an abusive relationship is one person trying to isolate their spouse from their friends and support system outside of the relationship--e.g. "your friends aren't good for you. I'm the only one you need."
