A guy cursed with shyness/social anxiety has to be realistic in his expectations because he's got very low SMV. A guy who is shy and good looking is at best a 5 or 6. One who is unattractive and shy is lower than that. So a good looking shy guy's natural mate is just an average looking girl. An unattractive shy guy's natural mate is a way below average girl in terms of natural selection.

Personal experience. Obese women are hit on constantly in bars and clubs or on OLD. So if a guy who is socially awkward approaches then he's got competition with guys who aren't.
