Go to places that hot women go to... the gym. And try to compliment them without being creepy. Most of my friends go to the gym with their SO. So after a few weeks of lite snooping you can figure out if they're single or not
The gym is the wrong place to try and pick up on women...most of them are paying those monthly fees to get a workout in and not to waste time dealing with getting hit on. They wear those personal mp3 players for a reason.

I generally agree however........
If you go regularly you will start to see people regular and then it's usually a nod to say hello, then you'll end up complimenting/commenting each other on your workouts and before you know it you are having full blown conversation about anything and everything....
So no it's not wise or smart to try and randomly approach them as you'd get told to sod off! lol, but it's very possible and probable that in time you'll be in a position to ask one out or even get asked out

Not every cute woman is taken a woman I have a class with is cute and single. We had a conversation while at the grocery store today and it was a nice way to kill some time and make a new friend. Overall, just talk to people.

No it doesn't. It depends on the gym. Some are more social than others. Most gyms I've been to, people chat with each other on and off. Others have a juice bar for socializing. It sounds like you've been to the wrong gyms, or else you're just using that as an excuse to justify shyness.
