Northern men make rude comments like those listed above.
I've lived in Georgia all my life and I don't know anyone who is missing half their teeth. That is ridiculous. We do have dentists here.
Southern people have normal names. Here are the baby boy names listed in the newspaper birth announcements: Steven Todd, Bryson Manning, Brennen John, Jon Wesley, Peyton Howard, Paul Reggie Jr., Marshall Edward, Colby James, Jackson Brent, Trenton Malik, Levi Brian.
Southern people do play golf. I live in a town with two courses. The Masters is in Georgia too.
I don't watch NASCAR, I don't drink beer, I'm not a hunter, and everyone in my family graduated from college.
I have found northern people to be rude, unfriendly, cold, not as laid back, very direct, and quick to insult others. My sister married a man from Chicago. He thinks he knows everything and constantly lectures everyone about everything.

Glad we mended that fence though. I obviously feel quite strongly about that "B family", and certainly don't want to alienate anyone who feels like I do.

Don't feel bad, lots of people hate the Bowdens. Just ask anyone from UF, USC, or Bama. I'm not too fond of Tommy, personally.

I'm from the south... married a man from the north - a New Yorker no less, and he has all of the qualities I like in the southern gentlemen that I am accustomed to.... and is even willing to wear seersucker! Though I must admit he hasn't actually worn it.. yet. Living in Chicago now, I can say that just as many men open the door for me here as they did in New Orleans. Let's face it, it all comes down to their Mama and the way they were raised! One big difference is that you don't hear as many "yes ma'am and no ma'ams" here as down south. I always thought it was kind of weird but now I kinda miss it. I don't really understand the teeth comment. I haven't noticed a difference in dental hygiene. Maybe that person noticed something because people smile more in the south

This is a thread in and of itself! Here, the North is an anomaly. I wonder why the Ivy League schools are pi$$-poor in athletics, on a national scale.
In the West and the Midwest, the powerhouse state schools ALSO have the best sports programs.
West: UCLA, USC, Washington
Midwest: Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois
Depending on the year, of course.
Interesting.

tlb71 then states: I wasn't defining southern men by Bowden standards. I was simply giving an example of a good school in the south without a strong football program. If you read the post I was quoting there was a question as to the reason some "good schools" are not known for athletics and I was simply pointing out it is possible they would rather be known for academics.
Are you forgetting Duke? An institution consistently ranked consistent with these ivy league schools? A university that has a pitiful excuse for a football team? How about UNC? Also consistently ranked in the top 25 best colleges. US News' 2008 list of best colleges included UNC, Duke, UVA and Wake Forest in the top 30 nationally.
USNews.com: America's Best Colleges 2008: National Universities: Top Schools
Five other ACC schools were in the top 100. So I'm sorry, I forgot your point.

The point was that, contrary to what someone said, southern men don't pick their colleges based on athletics. The point was that the best academic schools down south all have big athletics programs.
Every DIA school has a major athletics program. All the ACC and SEC schools, including Duke, UNC, Wake, Vandy etc., have major athletics compared to the small northeast DIII/DII/DIAA schools. Someone mentioned Tulane; Tulane has a major athletics department. They compete in CUSA. DIA schools bring in millions in athletic revenue; Ivy League schools don't even offer athletic scholarships. No comparison.

You're right. No comparison. You can't compare ACC schools like Dook and UNC with northeastern DII schools. It wouldn't be fair to compare these schools with any DII school considering you're talking about two of the most successful athletic programs in the country.
