I am a southern woman living in PA, from the deep south. From a young age I was taught to always be polite. We are always taught to make people feel comfortable and at home no matter what. I think this comes from small town living. When you know everyone in town in town, manners are important. If you hate Jimmy that lives next door's guts, you can't let on because his mom goes to church with your grandmother and you wouldn't want to offend her. I sometimes have a bad temper/attitude but I am a lot slower to let it show. When I first moved here I found many women I met to be brash, but as I got to know them they were just as soft-hearted as anyone else. I have to be careful sometimes of how I interact with everyday people, because my smile and friendly demeanor are considered flirting to northern men. I can see pros and cons to both sides of the fence. If a Northern woman doesn't like you, you will probably know right away. If a southern woman doesn't like you she will be nice to your face and secretly wish that you would go away. I have been guilty many times of this. It's not meant to be two-faced I just can't stand the idea of hurting someone's feelings.

I totally agree with you on this!!

I'm from the south, originally (southeast Texas real close to Louisiana). We learned early in life to stay attractive (no matter how old we get) by good hygiene, taking a shower everyday, and just doing the routine every single day.

Even here in Arizona, I've been here for 8 years now and I seem to take care of myself a lot better than some of the women in this state (or the town I live in, where most don't even shower, get a haircut/trim, or anything it looks like).

I believe southern women take care of their appearance much better than southwest women (mainly Arizonians) when it comes to appearance and hygiene. Just my opinion.

I suppose I like northern women but Russians to be specific.

I just was never attracted to the northern yank approach. I like beautiful women. If I have to choose between a beautiful women with brains and a women who has brains but wears army pants and looks like she has a mop on her head that just wiped up a high schooler's puke in the hallway, then I choose the former. I spent years in the presence of the ladder and it did nothing for me. I'd be single today without a doubt had I not gone beyond that Rubicon.

Hi mrstewart,

You mean like speaking Spanish in Mexico? There are actual cultural differences. When I was in college and this girl from the South put on her dress, I was looking and it looked good. Why? Because I couldn't remember ever seeing that in Chi-town.

Emergency Edit: When it's a middle-eastern girl, make sure her Dad isn't anywhere in the 4 kilometre vicinity. The tosspots carry a castration tool-kit, like First-aid. Watch the movie, Hidalgo, you'll know.

Hi AC,

That is another thing I like about the Southern thinking. Castration is just a form of knife fighting and after I am empty on my auto and lever action rifles, I am pulling pistols from my belt buckles and ankles to keep that sucker away. That is as close as a mother fighting for her children a man ever gets.

Hi Antlered Chamataka,

Actually in Chicago when I would buy Indian aged rice and spices on Devon before it was more wide spread. Its like little India. Its been awhile but they seemed to be nicely dressed in a feminine way. Were these the Southern bells of the Indus valley?

Well, G, I haven't socialised with the Indus Valley hots in a while now. But... I lived in the American South for nearly three years and I have spent time up north as well. The Southern women do "take care of themselves", they are absolutely dolled up most of the time and my head literally used to spin

Now is the definition of taking care of oneself good hygeine and grooming or getting all "dolled up"?

I've lived among southern gals and northern gals for most of my life. I've been back and forth between Texas and New England so many times I have lost count.

I hate dumping people into generalizations and categories.....but if I had to pick a region to discuss a topic honestly, openly, and interestingly enough....I'd pick a northern gal.

If I wanted to be a sorority type, caddy, gossipy, materialistic, money money money conversation all the time....I'd go to Dallas.
