Class is not only a matter of income, but also a host of other factors. Consider values, taste, aspirations, recreation, culture, politics etc etc.
Mom's parents by that point were very white collar. Executive, country club, Cadillac, vacation property, European vacations etc etc. Naturally, she went to college. This was never up for debate. Dad was an alcoholic cop from a family of essentially the same things. He dropped out after a semester. Don't ask me how or why that relationship came to pass. All I can say is that life would have been much easier and different for the better had she married "one of her own."

I am sorry to hear about this but it sounds like the alcoholism is probably what broke up the marriage. You can marry "one of your own" but these days, not even that is a guarantee for wedded bliss.....

Meatloaf is absolutely delicious.
I like with with the taters cooked inside the dish itself in halves, with carrots and cuts of celery, served with some corn off the stove.
Oh god I'm hungry before bed. This is a bad thing!

When we go to visit Chow's dad, his dad will often make a huge prime rib for all of us. Chow actually prefers his dad's meatloaf over prime rib...

Don't base blue collar/white collar relationships solely on income. A number of blue collar folks earn more than their white collar counterparts. These days, everyone has some type of training, degree, certification or continuing education in their field or area of expertise.
Think about what it takes to get your foot in the door in your field? Think again on what is needed to be at the top of your game in your field. Mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, painters, construction workers, steel workers, rug cleaners, shop keepers, landscaping/lawn care/garden center personnel, medical personnel, delivery couriers, bus/rail drivers, cooks/chefs/waitstaff, taxi drivers, personnel, maintenance workers.
Don't stick your nose in the air at the person giving you an estimate.

There was a certain blue collar ethos on his side that enabled the drinking habit and other fundamental differences that doomed it from the start (such as the dramatically reduced income/standard-of-living we had vs my aunts/uncles which was independent of dad's alcohol).
Wedding one of your own does not bring bliss, just a better shot at it.

I have worked at a BMW dealership,I have seen the wives and "girlfriends" that bring in the car while hubby is at work and there has almost always been a certain air of "your lower than me" attitude from these women toward people who worked for their car.
Interesting that on the flip side a male doctor or lawyer or millionaire might be inclinded to hook up with a blue collar girl because she is hot,or even a stripper but then again thay are probably the ones that bring their BMW or Mercedes in for service that there sugardaddy bought.
I had to laugh recently in the Miami secrtion where a poster said he loves Miami because all the stars live there....pfhhttt like they give a rats ass about you.

Most pool guys in America are Hispanic, and most of them live in bairros not trailer parks.

what if you are a college professional who met the man or women of your dreams. was everything you ever wanted in looks, character, principles and personality, but there's one thing he/she is a high school drop out who works at Burger King. would you feel embarrasses
Is your white bf/gf collar arrogant, and spoiled with a sence of entitlement or a down to earth sweet heart. Do you think blue collar people have a chip on the shoulder?

You know, there are elite blue collar jobs out there - nuclear underwater welder, instrument builders, high end machinists, etc. I think of these as mostly "guy" jobs, but not necessarily. Really, if you think about it, airline pilot is more like a blue collar job than not - they get paid by the hour, they have a union. A lot of small business owners work at their business, get their hands dirty, and don't have degrees, but are right up there with the professionals in terms of drive, capability, and income.
I could see a doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc. being quite happy with a "high end" blue collar mate.
If there is an extreme difference in motivation, achievement, etc, I don't think its so likely to work. If an MD is satisfied with a fry cook for a mate, for whatever reason, OK then, but in general "what are you going to talk about"?
